lissomesimplicity asked: When did you start playing chess?
When I was a little girl I used to watch my parents play every Friday night, without fail. My mother was much more skilled than my father, she had a certain mind to it, but boy oh boy was he intent on beating her! He only did, once. And I think my mother let him. (She always said she didn’t, however). They are very much in love, he never let this get in the way of their relationship at all. He had his own skills, anyway. He was a Doctor on Horizon before he retired.
Anyway when I was around seven or so I finally asked my mother to teach me, and we spent an afternoon and evening going over rules and strategies. I loved it instantly. It stimulated my mind and was fun! Two things I very much loved then, and still love now. Eventually I got to be almost as good as her, but I never did beat her. I..sent her an email with the “invite to a game” function on the set I got at the Citadel, but I have yet to receive an answer.
commander-samantha-jane-shepard asked: "Good Morning Specialist, have a minute to talk?"
Of course! What do you need, Commander?
Anonymous asked: i've only played chess against the computer and keep ending in draws, how do I learn to not suck at it
A lot of perseverance and practice. You’ll get there, Anonymous asker, just set aside a half an hour each day or every other day. While the computer is okay for some practice, but finding a live body to play with leads to definite skill boost. Oh, and choose your chess partners wisely. Learn from their mistakes and winnings. You can do it!
garrus-vakarian-here started following you
Well, hello Garrus! I’ve heard it’s a rarity for you to stop calibrating, need something?
A rarity, huh? I do venture out of the main battery every once and I while, Traynor. Common misconception.
Just wanted to see how you were, that’s all.
Perhaps I should stop listening to the rumor mill then. I definitely don’t mean to, but I am the comm specialist. I end up hearing a lot.
That’s very kind of you, Garrus. I’m doing fine, how are you?
thehumble01 asked: Also, would you marry me? I'll get you the white picket fence and whatever else you want luv ;)
Oh! Well, um. I’m afraid I’ll have to decline, with the Reaper war and all. Lots of signals to track, Harbinger to avoid…thank you for the offer, though. It’s very kind of you.
cmdrjaneshepard asked: I did. The Alliance message is just standard issue mission progress. As for the unknown sender. Well is there anyway you can track it, see where it came from?
I’ve been trying to, but every source is proving either false or non-existant. I’ll definitely keep looking for any patterns, however.
cmdrjaneshepard asked: It takes time. But you'll get used to it soon enough. Do you have all the equipment and supplies you need?
I do, thank you. The last of the orders from the Citadel have just arrived. Did you see that new message on your terminal?
Anonymous asked: All!
All? As in all the questions? Well I hope Cerberus doesn’t try to hack the Normandy, or the Reapers don’t attack while I’m writing this.
1. If you had one song to describe your life right now, what would it be?
To be honest, I haven’t listened to music in a long while. It’s not that I don’t like it, I definitely do, there just hasn’t been much time. Well…let me see. The lyrics ”It’s been a hard day’s night, and I’ve been working like a dog…it’s been a hard day’s night and I should be sleeping like a log” come into mind. It’s an old song from the 20th century, can’t remember the name of it. But I believe the song mentions that all that works’ alright if the person singing get’s to go home and snuggle with their honey. Well the reapers certainly aren’t even close to my honey, but I’m going to interpret this as “it’s a lot of hard work, but we’re going to kick the reapers in the arse so it’s going to be worth it.” And then we can sleep like logs.
2. If you had two children, a boy and a girl, what would you name them?
Joey and Lena. I’ve always liked those names.
3. If you had two children, a boy and a girl, what would you name them?
I already answered this, I believe.
4. If you could live in any home on television, what would it be?
The Blasto spaceship in the spin off series. Kidding. There was this home in this asari drama series that I was rather partial to. It had the most gorgeous and colorful windows and designs.
5. What’s the best halloween costume you’ve ever worn?
Oh! I’m glad to see people still celebrate this! I haven’t been able to have an excuse to celebrate it in years. Probably a tie between my costume based on the main character from ‘Nigtht Winds,’ and Xena from this really really old vid series that I watched on a classics sights on the extranet. When I was little, I was mostly dressed as either some Earth animal or Blasto.
6. What’s your least favorite word?
Snot.
7. If you had to be named after one of the 50 states of America, what state would you be named after?
Dakota would be a pretty name. And perhaps Arizona.
8.What food do you wish you could eat and not gain a pound?
Pizza. I always try to maintain a weekly slice, but sometimes I’ll just say ‘screw it!’ and have it early. And by sometimes, I mean most of the time.
9. Where do you go for advice?
I believe this is also answered.
10. Tell us your cheesiest knock knock joke
Knock knock!
Who’s there?
Interrupting starfish!
Interrupting star-
*grabs face*
….It doesn’t have quite the same effect written out….
11. If you could punch any famous person in the face, who would it be?
Does the Illusive Man count? Because I’ve been told that I have a mean right hook.
12. Name 5 songs which you know all the lyrics to.
Um, well. I could name two? This song from an asari singer I keep hearing in the Citadel elevators. It’s really catchy. And this song called “Imagine” by that same 20th century band I mentioned earlier. Like I said, I haven’t had much time to listen to music. I’ve always wanted to learn the piano.
13. Are you superstitious? and if so, with what?
Already answered as well.
14. If you could live in one movie, which one would it be?
“Check and Mate.” It involves asari and chess.
15. Are you a night owl or a morning person?
Both I think? I can stay up pretty late, but still be able to be awake in the morning. With that cup of coffee I mean, so I haven’t been the most awake lately. I suppose I could be called a “night owl” then.
16. What 3 physical features are you most proud of?
Um…hmm..well. I suppose my eyes aren’t too shabby. And I’ve been told that I have really good skin, which I suppose is true because it’s pretty soft. I do like my height; not too tall, and not too short.
17. In how many languages can you say “hello?”
….Twelve. English, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin, Greek, Portuguese, Ancient-Asari, Modern Thessian, two Salarian dialects, Modern-Citadel Turian, and one Volus dialect. I have a fondness for different languages and dialects.
18. Who is the last person you texted and tell us a story about them.
….Text? I guess this a 21st century term. I’m assuming this means messaging, and I just happened to message Joker about a possible meet-up of some of the crew about the Citadel. Joker and I hit it off pretty well when I first came to help re-fit the Normandy. He was a bit bitter about the whole ordeal, which I can completely understand, but we still managed to start a friendship. I have an appreciation for his dry humor. It’s definitely needed these days.
19. What is your religion if you have one?
I wasn’t brought up with a religion, but they’re fascinating from a historical standpoint. With everything that’s happened, it’s hard to start believing in any god.
20. What is your current relationship status?
Single. Very single. Considering the war, I’m guessing single for a very long time. Which is fine, although it would be nice to find someone to snuggle and laugh with.
21. What is a word/phrase that you say a lot?
“Commander.” I’m not being sarcastic, I say that word several times a day. Not that I mind, not at all.
22. If your life was a reality TV show, what would it be called?
“Chess and Circumstance.”
….Well, I thought it was clever anyhow. That took me too long. And EDI questioned as to why I start giggling at the galaxy map.
23. What is your phone background?
I assume you mean my omnitool background. I just set it to a beach, with rolling waves. Something to look forward to.
24. In the future, what do you hope gets invented?
Already answered, I believe.
25. What is your spirit animal?
I…don’t know. Perhaps some form of bird? I would love to fly. Without a spaceship, and preferably within an atmosphere.
26. Would you rather listen to the same song for the rest of your life, or see the same movie for the rest of your life?
I’m going to go with music. I guess there is always something new to find in music. Then again, the same could be said for movies..
27. Do you usually pick truth or dare?
I’ve always been a truth girl, myself. Although someone once asked me why I never picked dare in a very snide way, so I picked dare throughout the rest of that game and did a lot of dares that no one would even attempt. It was terrifying. And fun.
28. What would you do with a million dollars?
Buy a house, donate to charity. Maybe build a VI. (I assume this means credits).
29. What’s the most weird thing you’ve eaten?
Hanar food. Completely by accident. It tastes a bit like molten gravy with hints of paprika and vomit.
30. If you could be one celebrity for a day, who would you be and why?
I couldn’t say, but definitely someone famous from another species. That would be interesting. Hmm…maybe the lead from Vaenia. She was lovely, and a wonderful actress. Or maybe that salarian actor from “The Demon and the Nightmare.” He was a fantastic actor as well.
cmdrjaneshepard asked: Traynor good to see you. I hope you're settling in alright.
Hello Commander! Good to see you as well. I’m settling in wonderfully, the crew quarters are more or less comfortable.
